Sneak preview of the new layout

I started working on a new layout for www.word-grabber.com right after you surprised me with raising visits in December 2011. As you can still see, I am not a layouter, so I wasn’t able to work on it alone. In addition, I also had the existing search algorithms to be rewritten to build a more powerful Scrabble Helper and the other new word searches. So, project “new layout” didn’t really develop fast. Finally, in the last week I started coding the new layout from the design and in this article I wanted to give you a sneak preview.

Articles and more Features

The reason for the new layout is simple. As you noticed, we added a content section with articles on word games or word trivia to add more value to word-grabber.com. We were amazed by the huge interest in our insights so we want to present this content in a way it deserves.

There are many other features on our list and the current layout offers neither space nor the concept of including them properly. Just think about the main navigation and the many useful links we had to hide in the sidebar (aka. “hidebar” :)).

Have a look

And here you are. You can click on the image to see it in a bigger size. As you can see, there are some elements like the logo of the German twin site www.wort-suchen.de that still needs to be changed.

The new word-grabber.com layout in development status

Does the “Recent Post” box in the sidebar actually invite you to read the article? I think so and I’d now really love to bring more interesting word searches and content to word-grabber.com. It really makes fun to work with it.

What do you think? Would you miss the old layout? Does the new one catches your eye?

  1. I am so frustrated with the new changes! I can’t tell how many letters remain in my tray. Further, our game ended even though we both had letters!

    • Hi Freda,
I am so sorry you have problems with word-grabber.com now. Anyway, the layout didn’t change anything on our algorithms, so you should get the same results as before. Maybe you could send me examples from your tray. I am definitely going to look into it. Thanks
      Thomas
